Navajo Watches

Navajo WatchesThe term "Navajo watch" is really a misnomer. For while it is true that the Navajo culture is renown as silversmiths and artisans, they are NOT watch makers. Rather they make watch bands, that are so exquisite and distinctive that the bands overshadows the brand names on the watches to which they are affixed, thus the finished timepieces are thereafter referred to as Navajo watches.

Perhaps it was the earlier skills learned by the Navajo silversmiths when working with bracelets and buckles, that provided the expertise and catalyst for designing today's modern Navajo watch bands. This suggestion can be bolstered by the fact that Navajo watches are generally very heavy when compared to other watches. Authentic Navajo watch bands are normally created with .925 sterling silver and encrusted with turquoise, onyx, opal, lapis and coral, among other materials. While undeniably beautiful, the weight can be somewhat bothersome.

Today's Navajo watch bands come in a plethora of designs and styles. All lovers of Native American jewelry or western style dress can find a Navajo watch that suits their taste. And, it will be easy to get use to the extra weight around your wrist, when your continually receive comments and compliments on your stunning timepiece.
