Navajo Books

Navajo bookAfter the Civil War, the Navajo people were returned to their homeland. Today, they continue to live in peace, subsiding largely on the income from the sale of their fine handcrafted art work and merchandise. The Navajo are exceptionally gifted as artisans. Their textiles, jewelry, basketry, pottery, sand art, and sculpture are areas that collectors of Native American arts find highly desirable. Navajo rugs, sand paintings, kachinas, decorative pots and baskets are also prized by decorators for Southwestern interior design motifs.

As interests in the Navajo and their crafts increases so too does the need for information about these  talented people and their creations. As prices for desirable art pieces escalates, so too does the difficulty of identifying and putting a value on them. Serious collectors know that the purchase of an authoritative publication is an investment rather than an expense. Also, historians and students are always on the look out for more in-depth books on Navajo traditions, beliefs, legends and ceremonies.

There are many good Navajo books and price guides on the market dedicated to the Navajo people and their arts. These books can generally be found at major book stores, in the Native American cultures section. Many Navajo books show up at on-line auctions, opening the possibility of not only finding an authoritative publication but also snatching up a great bargain too.
